Presentation

The postgraduate course in Freight Transport Law is the result of a partnership between Portucalense University and APAT – Associação dos Transitários de Portugal. This is a specialized training and exclusively online, which aims to meet the objectives of greater competitiveness, efficiency and transparency of global trade. It aims not only to empower the “actors” of international trade, but also to contribute to the dissemination, to a wider audience, of the essential role of Freight Transport Law as an essential tool in the management of the national and international logistics chain.

Objectives

At the end of the course students should:

  1. Know the basic dogmatic and applicable legislation to the different types of freight transport (road, rail, sea, air and multimodal);
  2. Know the statute of the auxiliaries of transport;
  3. Identify the rules of interpretation of contracts for the international sale of goods – Incoterms;
  4. Distinguish between cargo insurance and liability insurance;
  5. Know the financial instruments suitable for international trade, namely the advantages of documentary credit as a method of payment;
  6. Identify the responsibility of the various transporters and other intervening parties in the distribution chain;
  7. Know the application of reserves and the correct procedures on claims;
  8. Know the role of Customs and the applicable legislation;
  9. Identify the different customs regimes, their characteristics, respective procedures and associated documentation;
  10. Know the legal-labour regime applicable to freight transport.
Expected Timetable

Academic Period:

12 January to 24 June 2024.

The course will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays between 6pm and 9pm.

Diploma or Certificate Awarded

The awarding of the postgraduate diploma depends on the presentation of a written work and respective oral defense.

Only students who have attended at least 75% of the respective contact hours may undergo evaluation.

Students who have attended at least 75% of the contact hours of each course unit, but who have not passed all the course units, will be awarded a certificate of attendance.

The research lines are developed in IJP – Portucalense Legal Institute, the scientific research centre in Legal Sciences of Portucalense University.
