Special Selection Tender for access and admission to undergraduate study cycles, taught in Portuguese, aimed at students from countries outside the European Union

Who can benefit from International Student Status?

The International Student Statute is available to all students who do not have Portuguese nationality, with the exception of

a) Nationals of a Member State of the European Union (these students may benefit from the Institutional selection tender for students with foreign qualifications);

b) Those who are not nationals of a member state of the European Union and who have been legally residing in Portugal for more than two years, uninterruptedly, on 31 August of the year in which they wish to enter higher education, as well as their children who are legally residing with them (these students may benefit from the Institutional Competition for students with foreign qualifications);

c) Those who apply for entry into higher education through the special access regimes regulated by DL 393-A/99 of 2 October, as amended by DL 272/2009 of 1st October.

Access Conditions

1.      Access to registration and enrolment in degree courses is available to:

a)      Holders of a qualification giving access to higher education, understood as any diploma or certificate issued by a competent authority in the country of origin attesting the approval in an education programme and entitling them to apply and be admitted to higher education in Portugal.

b)      Holders of a Portuguese secondary education diploma or legally equivalent qualification awarded by a secondary school or by the competent services of the Ministry of Education;

2. Brazilian Students

Undergraduate | Bachelor Degree

If you are Brazilian and want to be a student at Portucalense University undergraduate/graduate, you can apply through the Special Competition for International Students. This competition is addressed to all non-resident applicants of the European Union who do not yet have a higher education degree.

There are two ways to enter through the International Student Regime:

  • Using ENEM

If you wish to use ENEM as an entrance exam for access 2022/2023, UPT accepts ENEM taken after 2019 and in which candidates have obtained a final score equal to or greater than 500 points.

  • Using a specific entrance test

If the student has not taken any type of exam equivalent to the Portuguese entrance examinations, he/she will have to take an exam, written or oral, at Portucalense University, concerning the subject(s) equivalent to the entrance examinations, according to the table below. Higher education entrance examinations

For Brazilian students access to the 1st cycle courses can be made with the National High School Exam - ENEM, if taken after 2018 and if a classification equal to or higher than 500 points has been obtained.

If the student has not taken any type of exam equivalent to the Portuguese entrance examinations, he/she will have to take an exam, written or oral, at Portucalense University, concerning the subject(s) equivalent to the entrance examinations, according to the table below. How do you apply?

The application is made by filling in the Application Form, available at Admission Office and on the Applications Portal and must be instructed with:

  1.  Declaration issued by the official services of the country of origin, attesting that the secondary education qualification held, obtained in that country, is sufficient to allow the applicant to enter in official higher education in courses similar to the one he intends to apply for. The candidates are exempted from submitting the mentioned declaration:
    • High school or high school graduates from Brazil, who have taken the National High School Exam - ENEM;
    • That, according to article 20 A of DL no. 296-A/98, intend to substitute the entrance examinations by final examinations of non-Portuguese courses legally equivalent to Portuguese secondary education and are holders of non-Portuguese secondary education courses legally equivalent to Portuguese secondary education according to DL no. 227/2005, of 28 of December, and corresponding ministerial orders.
  1. Descriptive certificate of the completion of studies (equivalent to secondary education in Portugal), with the respective classification. This certificate must be recognised by a public secondary school in Portugal
  2.  Grading of the secondary school final examinations (of the subjects indicated for each course, according to the attached table);
  3. Document attesting the level of knowledge of the Portuguese or English language, depending on the language of instruction of the course they are applying for;
  4. Passport or other legally equivalent identification document;;
  5. Recent photo;
  6. Declaration, under oath, that the candidate does not have Portuguese nationality;
