The importance that Rural Tourism assumes is increasing in the scope of the Economy, Tourism, in general, and Regional Development, in particular. Tourism linked to nature and the environment, as a cultural product, has become the main theme of tourism development in most Portuguese rural territories.

The rural territory must promote the creation of tourist products and activities that favor the discovery and interpretation of a vast cultural and architectural heritage, often undervalued but which, in truth, contains a unique wealth, making them real rough diamonds. waiting to be worked on.

In this context, we believe that there is still a lot to study and reveal about local products that identify the identity of the regions, thus promoting all the potential of this rural territory, through Rural Tourism.

Objectives
  1. To Characterize the different rural territories in Portugal, interpreting their cultural heritage.
  2. To Detail the characteristics and singularities of the historical and architectural heritage in the different rural regions of the Portuguese territory.
  3. To Carry out a geographical, agrarian, physical, climatic and social description of the different rural territories in Portugal, interpreting their natural heritage.
  4. To Identify the means of dynamization of spaces and traditional culture, investing in the development of programs linked to the environment and nature – fishing, birdwatching, hiking, among many others.
  5. To make tourism professionals aware of the importance, not only of using natural resources as a tourist attraction, but also of investing in the quality of services provided.
  6. To Make all players aware of the importance of tourism in rural areas as an economic lever for national tourism.
  7. To Develop marketing and promotion strategies to cover the market in general, but especially market niches specifically aimed at rural tourism.
  8. To Effectively publicize the importance of gastronomy, culture and the national natural and architectural heritage.
  9. To Know the principles and determinants for the development of sustainable tourism, enhancing regional development.
  10. To Raise awareness of the different legal specificities relating to the creation and operation of tourism units in rural areas.
  11. To Know the different realities through practical cases of success and experts in the field of tourism in rural areas.

Note: During the Short Master we will have the collaboration of several experts in the programmatic contents taught.

In a direct relationship with the DTHC/ Department of Tourism, Heritage and Culture,  REMIT/ Research on Economics, Management and Information Technologies based on a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary perspective aims to respond to social challenges through a holistic approach involving a wide range of scientific areas such as Economics, Management, Science, Technology, Tourism, Heritage and Culture. Based on the production of advanced scientific knowledge, REMIT has a special focus on its application to the resolution of real issues and challenges, under two dimensions:

  • the understanding of the local, national and international environment;
  • the development of activities oriented towards professional practice, namely in the business world.
