The present diploma confers the qualification in Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and Counselling (180 ECTS) or, with the conclusion of the 1st year, Advanced Studies in Clinical Psychology and Counselling (60 ECTS).
The Doctorate is organized in 2 semesters that correspond to the curricular structure, plus 2 years dedicated to the preparation, realization and presentation of a thesis defense.
The course is equivalent to 60 ECTS for the curricular part and 120 ECTS for the preparation, realization and presentation of the thesis, which makes a total of 180 ECTS in the following scientific areas:

The doctoral students research activities are framed in research projects in development within I2P – Instituto Portucalense de Psicologia, organized in a limited set of thematic areas: Clinical Psychology; Counseling and Human Development and Applied Neurosciences. The supervision of PhD students is ensured by highly qualified academics, trained within the latest academic and scientific paradigms. The action of the supervisor is coordinated by the action of the scientific coordination committee of the course, which ensures constant monitoring of activities and the resolution of all matters arising in its implementation.
The course benefits from the support of a research center with the human and material resources necessary for the implementation of the research activities, as well as resources from other partner laboratories and centers that closely collaborate with I2P in order to achieve the common global: contribute to our shared scientific knowledge.
The doctoral thesis will be integrated in existing funded research projects, developed by consolidated research groups and intenationally recongnized R&D units, in the scientific area of the study program.

The Application Process must be completed with

- Application for Recognition and Creditation of Competences in accordance with regulations in force (including syllabus contents and hour loads of the subjects to which equivalence is to be requested and discriminative certificate (*) (**)with the grades obtained).

The Doctoral Programme in Business Sciences of Universidade Portucalense has two scholarships (with a maximum duration of 48 months), funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), to be awarded to full-time students.
Universidade Portucalense also offers a set of scholarships for the doctoral programmes in Legal Sciences and in Clinical Psychology and Counselling that cover the tuition fees. All candidates to these doctoral programmes are automatically eligible for these scholarships after formal enrolment. The number of scholarships to be awarded, together with the award criteria will be defined in due time, in a specific dispatch.
