Seminar “Fragmentation and strategic discontinuity in the digital age”

Paulo Viegas Nunes, Chair of the Board of Directors of the Integrated System for Emergency and Security Networks in Portugal (SIRESP), is the guest speaker at the seminar “Fragmentation and strategic discontinuity in the digital age: from information superiority to knowledge warfare,” on 27 October at 11am in “Sala de Atos” (sixth floor).

“Technological revolution and digital transformation require a new skills matrix, geared towards a digital future based on information and knowledge management and challenged by the growth of cyber threats and artificial intelligence that give rise to new threats and risks,” emphasises Paulo Viegas Nunes.

“By building a resilient digital ecosystem and a free, open, and secure cyberspace, Portugal’s strategic positioning must be strengthened in order to boost the use of this global space for affirming values, defending interests and safeguarding national sovereignty,” argues the head of the Portuguese state’s exclusive communications network for the command, control, and coordination of communications in all emergency and security situations.

Paulo Fernando Viegas Nunes is a Brigadier General in the Army. He holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Military Sciences from the Military Academy; a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Instituto Superior Técnico; a PhD in Information Sciences from the Complutense University of Madrid.

This seminar is part of the seminar cycle “The paths of sustainability.”
