Universidade Portucalense launches a Doctoral programme in Translational Psychology
Universidade Portucalense has received approval from A3ES to launch the Doctoral programme in Translational Psychology, coordinated by Óscar Gonçalves, director of the RISE-HEALTH@UPT research centre. The programme stands out for adopting Translational Psychology as its structuring axis, in a still unprecedented approach at doctoral level. Unlike traditional models, generally focused on specific sub-areas and with a unidirectional research-to-practice logic, this doctoral programme is based on a bidirectional dynamic, in which knowledge flows between science and applied contexts, with research and intervention in areas such as health, education, justice, the arts, management, and technology influencing one another. The programme integrates neuroscientific evidence into the development of psychological interventions and draws on real-life issues arising from professional contexts. It is aimed at candidates with advanced qualifications in Psychology or related fields, as well as professionals with relevant experience in non-academic settings. With a duration of three years and a maximum of ten places per year, it is a selective doctoral programme geared towards scientific excellence and applied impact. The doctoral programme is part of RISE-Health@UPT, a unit rated “Very Good” by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology. It includes access to a neuroscience laboratory and work placements in an applied setting, with both academic and institutional supervision. In line with the PESSOAS 2030 European programme priorities, the new doctoral programme strengthens the link between research and society, cultivating professionals capable of turning scientific knowledge into practical solutions to real-life challenges.
