Universidade Portucalense – Infante D. Henrique

Universidade Portucalense Infante D. Henrique is a cooperative higher education and scientific research establishment

Welcome to DEM - Department of Economics and Management!

The contribution of the Department of Economics and Management (DEM) to the educational, scientific and cultural project of Portucalense University is based on the quality of its training offer, invariably guided by its timeliness and alignment with the needs of the labour market, as well as on the centrality of research and its close articulation with teaching, aimed at promoting the advancement of the frontier of knowledge.

In terms of teaching, there is a firm commitment to training highly qualified, autonomous professionals who are able to respond to real and complex problems, take initiative, live with risk, innovate, undertake and lead in a global context. This ambitious commitment presupposes a highly qualified teaching staff in scientific and pedagogical terms, a strong involvement with the business fabric, the design of an (extra)curricular offer capable of promoting soft skills, a close relationship between teacher/student, and the use of diversified and student-centred teaching-learning methodologies. The scientific research component is reinforced in the 2nd cycle and, above all, in the 3rd cycle, where master and PhD students are integrated in the multidisciplinary research centre REMIT – Research on Economics, Management and Information Technologies, thus creating favourable conditions for students, as well as teachers, to successfully contribute to the advancement of scientific knowledge.

The DEM sees itself as a global department, as shown by the internationalisation of its training offer and research activities, as well as the numerous partnerships with other higher education institutions under the Erasmus + programme, encouraging the mobility of students and teaching staff. The DEG is also an open Department, cooperating with other institutions and with the business world, and valuing the transfer of knowledge to society, both by organizing conferences, seminars and workshops open to the community, and by incorporating in its training offer several non-degree advanced training actions.
