Tourism and Sustainable Transformation

From 10 to 14 November, Universidade Portucalense is holding its 1st Tourism and Hospitality Week, themed “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation”. Over five days, students, faculty, and national and international guests will share their perspectives, experiences, and projects in the tourism sector.

The initiative kicks off on 10 November with the Official Opening Session in Auditorium 201. The opening includes the presentation of the books Building Human Capital in Tourism and Hospitality and Tourism and Climate Change, both edited by lecturers from Universidade Portucalense. The event concludes with a Port of Honour reception, marking the authors’ scientific and academic contribution and the official start of activities.

11 November is the Vocational Schools Open Day, dedicated to integration and sharing between students from different institutions. Morning activities at the School Hotel will challenge participants to apply management and teamwork skills, and the morning will conclude with an intercultural moment. In the afternoon, a Poster Exhibition in in Passos Perdidos will showcase innovative projects and good practices.

12 November will be a day for gastronomy and wine. Workshops at the School Hotel will encourage experiential learning. In the afternoon, auditorium 201 will host the class “Sustainable Transformation in Tourism,” held in partnership with the National University of Chimborazo (Ecuador).

On 13 November, the focus shifts to entrepreneurship and sustainability. The Open Class “Pitching Sustainable Business Ideas” will take place during the morning, and the afternoon will be devoted to guided tours of Porto’s historic centre.

The final day, 14 November, features an “Urban Treasure Hunt,” taking participants in an interactive tour of the centre of Porto. The closing ceremony in Passos Perdidos will host the “Taste of the World” event, a moment for sharing cultural and gastronomic experiences, and will conclude with the award ceremony for the Travel Photography Competition.

Organised by the students of the 2nd year of the Tourism and Hospitality Management Degrees, the 1st Tourism and Hospitality Week aims to be a space for learning, international cooperation, and innovation, stressing Universidade Portucalense’s commitment to training conscious professionals invested in developing a more sustainable, inclusive, and transformative tourism.
