Presentation

The Master in Innovation in Education successfully combines two fields of education, multimedia and technology, in an interdisciplinary perspective. The main objectives of the course are to contribute to the development of innovative pedagogical models in educational and training contexts and to promote the training of professionals working in the educational field, to improve the quality of educational and training processes. It aims to promote the advanced training of professionals interested in updating knowledge and skills that allow them to respond, effectively and inclusively, to current and future challenges in education. This update is based on a solid theoretical-scientific base, suitable for teaching and guiding multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary intervention and scientific research projects, combining knowledge of education, multimedia and technology.

Objectives

  • Understand and solve problems in multidisciplinary contexts using multimedia technologies and innovation in education
  • Critically analyze the design, implementation and evaluation of digital educational resources
  • Design pedagogical proposals based on flexible and student-centered teaching and learning models
  • Build and problematize different multimedia and innovation references and instruments in education
Diploma or certificate awarded

This diploma confers the qualification in the Master in Innovation in Education (120 ECTS) or, with the completion of the 1st year, the Specialization in Innovation in Education (60 ECTS).

Admission requirements

Those who meet the conditions indicated in DL 74/2006, of March 26, and the content provided by DL nº 65/2018, of August 16, andin the regulation of the study programme (SP), may apply for admission to this Master’s degree:

  1. Holders of a bachelor’s degree or legal equivalent in the scientific area of Education Sciences (ESc), Multimedia (MM), Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), or any other similar;
  2. Holders of a foreign higher academic degree awarded in a 1st SP organized according to the Bologna principles in the scientific area of ESc, MM, ICT, or any other similar;
  3. Holders of a foreign higher academic degree in the scientific area of ESc, MM, ICT, or any other similar, that is recognized as meeting the objectives of the degree by the statutorily competent body of the UPT;
  4. Holders of an academic, scientific, or professional curriculum, recognized by the statutorily competent body of the UPT, as attesting to the capacity to carry out this SP.

Who can apply for a Master’s degree?
2ND STUDY CYCLE
  • Holders of the bachelor degree or legal equivalent;
  • Holders of a foreign academic degree conferred following a 1st cycle of studies organized according to the principles of the Bologna process by a state that adheres to that process;
  • Holders of a foreign academic degree that is recognized as meeting the objectives of the bachelor degree by the Scientific Council of  Portucalense University;
  • Holders of an academic, scientific or professional curriculum which is recognized by the Scientific Council of Portucalense University as attesting to their ability to undertake this cycle of studies.

Given their academic and professional background, candidates may submit a request for Application for Recognition and Accreditation of Competences, which may confer equivalence to course units of the Master’s course. Holders of Pre-Bologna licenciado degree who have more than 5 years of professional experience in the area of the master’s degree may request the substitution of the dissertation by a detailed report on the professional activity according to the regulations in force.

  • Own Model, Acknowledgement that the academic degree satisfies the objectives of the degree of licenciado, for the purposes of application to a master’s course, requesting prior recognition by the Scientific Council of the access qualification

  • Document proving the possession of the foreign higher academic degree with an indication of the final mark (*)
  • Detailed certificate of the course units that make up the curricular plan of the academic degree (*)
  • Updated CV (Candidates must submit proof of the extracurricular activities and professional experience they have declared. For the purposes of ranking, failure to submit the relevant documents will result in these activities not being considered in the assessment process);


(*) The documents must be translated into Portuguese, whenever they are not issued in Portuguese, English, French or Spanish and stamped by the consular service or presented with the Haia Apostille affixed by the competent authority of the State where the document originated.

Bachelor’s finalist student applications
1. WHO CAN APPLY

Undergraduate students may apply conditionally for a Master’s degree programme at Universidade Portucalense during the first and second application rounds, provided that, at the time of application, they are missing no more than 30 ECTS credits or 5 course units to complete their bachelor’s degree.

  • 1st phase applications: 2 February to 13 March;
    2nd stage applications: 1 April to 14 May;
2. CALCULATION OF THE GRADE FOR SELECTION

The average mark to be taken into account for the student’s ranking will be calculated using the following formula:

3. APPLICATION DOCUMENTS

a) Identification document
b) Curriculum vitae
c) A statement issued by the higher education institution you are attending*, specifying the degree programme in which you are enrolled for the 2025/2026 academic year, your current grade point average (calculated using the formula set out in the previous point), and the number of ECTS credits and course units remaining to complete the programme.

4. EXCLUSION FROM CANDIDACY

Students who are missing more than 30 ECTS credits or more than 5 course units to complete their bachelor’s degree may not apply during the first and second rounds. They may only apply after obtaining their degree certificate and are subject to the availability of remaining places.
Applications that do not meet the requirements set out in point 3(c) of this document will be excluded.

5. ENROLMENT

Once the placement results have been published, successful candidates must complete their pre-registration within the specified deadlines and make the relevant payment.
Pre-registration (Phases 1 and 2): 14 May to 16 July
A candidate’s pre-enrolment is conditional upon the submission of their degree certificate. The degree certificate must be submitted by the deadline of 25 September 2026. Failure to submit this certificate by the specified deadline will result in the automatic cancellation of their pre-enrolment** and the release of the place they have occupied, which will be made available for re-application.

*With the exception of UPT undergraduate students.
**There is no refund of the registration fee.

Documentation for Re-entry application:

  • Identification document;
  • Passport type photo;
  • Application for recognition and crediting of skills, according to the regulations in force, if you wish to apply for the equivalence of skills other than those acquired in the course for which you are re-entering.
