All of Universidade Portucalense’s research units have been rated “Very Good” by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). The FCT’s announcement on 15 April 2025 of the provisional results of the evaluation of research units brought great news for our university: all four research units, CIAUD.UPT, CINTESIS-UPT (RISE.Health), IJP, and REMIT, were rated “Very Good”. Congratulations are therefore in order to all of the institution’s employees, especially the researchers and support staff, whose committed contribution was decisive for this result. This result recognises the continuous improvement that the University has been making in all areas, with special emphasis on research. It is yet another strong incentive to reinforce the standards of quality and innovation adopted in all the University’s scope of action, namely in undergraduate, postgraduate, and executive education, and in research.

Universidade Portucalense has entered into a partnership with ICN – Business School in Paris, strengthening its internationalisation, within the scope of the Executive MBA, which is scheduled to start classes in January 2025.  With this partnership Executive MBA students have the opportunity to take part in an international week at the La Defence campus in the French capital, on the theme “From Heritage to Innovation.” This programme includes practical lessons in the classroom and visits to leading companies and public bodies, with the aim of developing skills in innovation, strategy, and creativity combined with management and entrepreneurship. The use of new techniques, such as “figital” – a concept combining the intersection between the physical and digital worlds – will be present throughout the course. The Executive MBA, part of the Portucalense Business School, is an opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge that are essential for responding to new management challenges, as well as providing direct contact with national and international business professionals and realities. The ICN Business School is one of the oldest business schools in France, recognised for quality teaching supported by an interdisciplinary and practice-oriented approach, with a strong link to the labour market. The institution holds triple accreditation from the AACSB (Association for Advance Collegiate Schools of Business), AMBA (Association of MBAs & Business Graduates Association) and EQUIS (Institutional Accreditation System), which represents the highest seal of quality in business education.  

Applications are open until 4 April for the “Technology, Geopolitics, and International Security” Intensive Programme, which will be held online. This specialised programme aims to equip participants with a critical mindset on the impact of technology in international relations, the geopolitical implications of technological innovations, and the associated security challenges, preparing them to interpret and respond to emerging global issues. Until August 14, 2025, applications are open for the Post-Graduate Degree Clinical Fundamentals for Hospital Management Application Intakes: 1st application phase: April 27 to August 14, 2025 – Early Bird: 10% discount on tuition fees 2nd application phase: August 15 to October 10, 2025 With this postgraduate training, the aim is to provide hospital management with specific clinical concepts that facilitate and increase coordination between the different health professions in the governance of health institutions. The ultimate purpose of this training is to obtain gains in efficiency, effectiveness and effectiveness in the management of hospital institutions with increases in the quality of care provided to patients and, consequently, in their levels of satisfaction. This course aims to provide hospital managers or administrators with clinical knowledge that will help them make daily economic decisions. The health sector in general, and medicine in particular, are characterised by technical specificities that require specific training. Since hospital managers or administrators have to make decisions on a daily basis that involve specific clinical knowledge, it is of the utmost importance that they have this knowledge.

More than 30 companies and institutions are expected at the “Careers UPT” Job Fair on 26 March. This is an opportunity for final-year students and young graduates to find out about and apply for various jobs and internships opportunities. This edition will feature lectures and talks from different training areas about employability and the challenges of the first steps in professional life.

The Call for Abstracts for the 13th Conference of the Lusophone Network of Urban Morphology (PNUM), which will be held on 25, 26, and 27 June at Universidade Portucalense, is open until 28 January. The conference, about the topic “Beyond Form: Territory and Societal Challenges,” has the following thematic lines: The challenges of territorial cohesion; The challenges of climate change; The challenges of the digital transition; The challenges of urban densification; Methodological challenges; The challenges of training/teaching; The new challenges of urban morphology. Until 13 January, registration is open for the Short Executive Master in Talent Management and Retention in Hospitality. The programme addresses critical issues, such as attracting and retaining talent, leadership, diversity and inclusion, and happiness and well-being at work, which are fundamental to creating high-performance teams and the success of the sector. Through dynamic teaching methodologies, such as real-life case studies and practical exercises, participants will be given the skills to face industry-specific challenges, improve the performance of their teams and drive operational excellence. The creation of this programme meets the growing demand for qualified professionals in the tourism and hospitality sector, contributing to the development of leaders prepared to face the challenges and opportunities of today’s market.    

On 10 March the Short Master in Sommelier and Wine Global Market begins. This is a programme that offers a holistic view of the wine sector, with wine tastings and visits to leading companies. The programme is aimed at professionals in the sector and wine lovers who want to enrich and deepen their knowledge in this area. The applications are open until 28 February.
