Chapel of Senhor dos Passos
Attached to the wall of the Monastery of St. Francis, the chapel was once isolated in the “Passos da Paixão”. The present wall was built by the Monastery of St. Francis. Today only two chapels remain in Oporto. The one presented here, belonging to the Church of “S. João Novo” and the Chapel of St. Sebastian, located at Rua de S. Sebastião, near the Cathedral. These chapels were part of a series, now lost, located on the path of the Procession of the Passion. In 1834 the procession, which took place on the Friday before Easter, was abolished and the chapels disappeared. The whereabouts of the others are not known, nor what happened to their images.
