Who can take advantage of the International Student Status?
All students who do not have Portuguese nationality may take advantage of the International Student Status, with the exception of:
a) nationals of a European Union Member State (these students may take advantage of the Institutional Competition for students with foreign qualifications);
b) those who, not being nationals of a European Union Member State, have been legally residing in Portugal for more than two years, uninterruptedly, on August 31st of the year in which they intend to enter higher education, as well as any children who legally reside with them (these students may take advantage of the Institutional Competition for students with foreign qualifications);
c) those who require admission to higher education through the special access and entry regimes regulated by Decree-Law no. 393-A/99, of October 2nd, modified by Decree-Law no. 272/2009, of October 1st.
Access conditions
1. Application for registration and enrolment in bachelor's courses is open to:
a) holders of a qualification giving access to higher education, understood as any diploma or certificate issued by a competent authority in the country of origin attesting to the approval in a teaching programme, and granting them the right to apply and be able to enter higher education in Portugal;
b) holders of a Portuguese high school diploma or legally equivalent qualification, assigned by a secondary school or by the relevant departments of the Ministry of Education;

Exams to access higher education
For Brazilian students, access to 1st cycle courses can be done with the National High School Examination (ENEM), if it is done after 2017 and if a mark of 500 points or higher has been obtained.
If the student has not taken any type of exam equivalent to the Portuguese entrance exams, he or she will have to take a written or oral examination at Universidade Portucalense, regarding the subjects corresponding to the entrance exams, according to the table below. To register for the exams, contact the Admissions Office.

Public Notice - Composition of the Examination Panels
Applications
Application is made by completing the application form available at the Universidade Portucalense’s Admissions Office and at the Application Portal, and it must enclose the following:
- Declaration issued by the competent authority in the country of origin, attesting that the secondary qualification obtained in that country is sufficient to enter official higher education in courses similar to the one to which the person intends to apply. The following are exempt from presenting said declaration:
- Holders of higher secondary education (ensino médio or 2º grau) from Brazil, who have taken the National High School Examination – ENEM;
- Who, pursuant to article 20 A of Decree-Law no. 296-A/98, intend to substitute entrance exams for final exams of non-Portuguese courses legally equivalent to Portuguese secondary education and who hold non-Portuguese secondary education courses legally equivalent to the Portuguese secondary education under Decree-Law no. 227/2005, of December 28th, and corresponding ordinances.
- Descriptive certificate attesting to the student's completion of studies (equivalent to secondary education in Portugal), with the corresponding mark. Said certificate must be recognized by a Public Secondary School in Portugal.
- Secondary education final exams’ mark (of the subjects indicated for each course, according to the attached table);
- Document attesting to the level of knowledge of the Portuguese or English language, depending on the language of the degree programme the student is applying for;
- Passport or other legally equivalent identity document;
- Recent photograph;
- Sworn statement that the applicant does not have Portuguese nationality;
Note: The documents referred to in Paragraph 1, 2, 3 shall be translated into Portuguese or English, unless they are issued in Portuguese, English, French or Spanish, and endorsed by the consular office or submitted with The Hague Apostille Stamp, by the competent authority of the State from which the document originates.
