The master’s degree in Educational Sciences, specializing in Education and Socio-community Intervention (Mestrado em Ciências da Educação, especialidade em Educação e Intervenção Sociocomunitária), is structured in 4 semesters, with a total of 120 ECTS.

The 1st year has 7 mandatory curricular units and one optional curricular unit, evenly distributed in 2 semesters.

The 2 year includes the completion of a Dissertation or of a Project or the accomplishment of a professional Traineeship, with elaboration of a Final Report, subject to public presentation and defence before an Examination Panel.

  4. To develop and apply research methodologies in the context of heuristic projects of an educational nature; 

  5. To plan, manage, and evaluate training projects and socio-educational intervention;

  6. To participate in the management of socio-community intervention projects, with a view to the pedagogical qualification of public spaces and the social recognition of civic rights;

  7. To collaborate in the organization of networks of social stakeholders, aiming at the promotion of educational and community development policies.

Diploma or Certificate Awarded

This diploma confers the qualification in the Master in Education Sciences: Specialization in Education and Socio-community Intervention (120 ECTS) or, with the conclusion of the 1st year, the Specialization in Education Sciences: Specialization in Education and Socio-community Intervention (60 ECTS).

 

Note: Holders of the licenciado degree Pre-Bolonha, who have more than 5 years of professional experience in the area of the master degree, may request the substitution of the dissertation by a detailed report on the professional activity according to the Regulation in force.

The research within this cycle of studies is framed in the Portucalense Institute for Human Development (INPP) research centre. The INPP has two research units - the Cognitive Development Lab and the Therapeutic Innovation Lab.
The CDL supports research in the understanding of the bases of cognition and behaviour, seeking to use this evidence for promoting more efficient and inclusive learning processes. This lab has a close connection to the Center for Excellence in Teaching and UPT's Student's Observatory and is focused on promoting the quality of lifelong education and gender equality.
The TIL supports the work of developing new instruments to assess new realities and to develop new interventions. This laboratory has two support structures: the Clinical Psychology and Counselling Service and the Student Support Office. Both structures share a common goal: promoting the health and well-being of the internal community of UPT and that of the community at large.
This cycle of studies is more directly aligned with the CDL, addressing specific lines within the scope of Education for Citizenship and Inclusion, Promotion of Gender Equality, and Diversity and Education.

2ND STUDY CYCLE
  • Holders of the bachelor degree or legal equivalent;
  • Holders of a foreign academic degree conferred following a 1st cycle of studies organized according to the principles of the Bologna process by a state that adheres to that process;
  • Holders of a foreign academic degree that is recognized as meeting the objectives of the bachelor degree by the Scientific Council of  Portucalense University;
  • Holders of an academic, scientific or professional curriculum which is recognized by the Scientific Council of Portucalense University as attesting to their ability to undertake this cycle of studies.

Given their academic and professional background, candidates may submit a request for Application for Recognition and Accreditation of Competences, which may confer equivalence to course units of the Master's course. Holders of Pre-Bologna licenciado degree who have more than 5 years of professional experience in the area of the master's degree may request the substitution of the dissertation by a detailed report on the professional activity according to the regulations in force.

Application documentation for holders of a foreign higher education degree

  • Own Model, Acknowledgement that the academic degree satisfies the objectives of the degree of licenciado, for the purposes of application to a master's course, requesting prior recognition by the Scientific Council of the access qualification
    Identification document
    Photograph, passport type
    Document proving the possession of the foreign higher academic degree with an indication of the final mark (*)
    Detailed certificate of the course units that make up the curricular plan of the academic degree (*)
    Updated CV

    (*) The documents must be translated into Portuguese, whenever they are not issued in Portuguese, English, French or Spanish and stamped by the consular service or presented with the Haia Apostille affixed by the competent authority of the State where the document originated.

Re-entry

Documentation for Re-entry application:

  • Identification document;
  • Passport type photo;
  • Application for recognition and crediting of skills, according to the regulations in force, if you wish to apply for the equivalence of skills other than those acquired in the course for which you are re-entering.
