Cognitive-Behavioral Therapies 2017/2018

Objectives

After completing the curricular unit, students should be able to:
1. Master and apply the key concepts of cognitive-behavioral models and critically discuss their assumptions
2. To analyze and critically discuss recent advances in research around the models of cognitive-behavioral intervention
3. Apply the principles of these models in shaping psychological evaluation processes, demonstrating critical analisys and clinical evaluation skills in different frames of psychological disturbance
4. Plan cognitive-behavioral intervention protocols, taking into account the clinical evaluation made, for the relief of individual disturbances and imbalances, and to promote development and personal adaptation

Recommended Prerequisites

Units of the 1st cycle of studies, namely Psychopathology 1 and 2 and Psychological Intervention Models 1 and 2. Basic knowledge in the elaboration of clinical reports.

Teaching Metodology

Teaching methodology involving expository and active components, which imply the participation of students in class. Use of different software tools, including video recordings, as well as the discussion of scientific articles relevant to the understanding of the key concepts of each of the syllabus. Use of role-plays and analysis and discussion of clinical cases to develop assessment and intervention skills. The unit provides a continuous assessment method, involving four elements (two projects, attendance
and knowledge assessment test). Attendance is mandatory taking into account the evaluation method defined.

Demonstration of the syllabus coherence with the curricular unit's objectives

The achievement of the objective concerning the domain and application of the key concepts of cognitive-behavioral models and critical discussion of their assumptions will be achieved by exploiting the syllabus 1. The presentation of the syllabus 2 will allow the achievement of the aim related to the analysis and critical discussion of recent advances in research around the cognitive-behavioral intervention moddels. The application of the principles of these models in shaping psychological evaluation processes with demonstration of skills related to the clinical evaluation in different psychological disorders will be possible by exploiting the syllabus 3 and 5 and respective subtopics. Finally, to achieve the goal related to the planning of intervention protocols taking into account the conducted clinical evaluation will be essential the exploitation of the syllabus 4 and 5.

The use of role-plays and analysis and discussion of clinical cases will be essential for the development of assessment skills (eg, implementation of functional analysis) and intervention (including establishment of treatment protocols).
