Recognize the importance and the role of information systems in organizations.
Identify the types of information systems used in organizations.
Recognize how organizations acquire and / or develop information systems.
Select the paradigm of Development Information Systems that best fits the project to develop.
Select and use the best techniques to identify the requirements of the Information System to develop, not forgetting the organizational context.
List and evaluate different CASE tools.
Use and operate a CASE tool for modeling.
Develop the skills of teamwork.

The learning objectives of the UC contribute to 1st, 6th, 8th and 9th goals defined for Computation course and to the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 10th and 11th goals of the course of IST.

Teaching Metodology

It will be used the expositive method, intending however the active participation of students through direct interpellation between teacher and students and vice versa.
Students will solve case studies that could approximate them to the real-world situations. The demonstrative method will be used to demonstrate the operation of a CASE tool.In parallel the students develop a group project whose goal is to acquire practical knowledge in a collaborative and simulation environment.

Demonstration of the syllabus coherence with the curricular unit's objectives

The recognition of the importance and the role of Information Systems in Organizations and the Identification of Information System Types used by an organization are worked on the Information Systems topic.
The programmatic content Different Approaches to Development Information Systems provides insight into how organizations acquire and/or develop information systems.
The selection of the Development Information Systems Paradigm that best fits the project is achieved through the presentation and comparison of different Information Systems Development approaches.
The purpose of selecting and using the best techniques to identify requirements for the Information System to
be developed is worked through the Requirements Identification Process and Requirements Identification
Techniques topics.
The enumeration and evaluation of different CASE tools will be achieved with the topic CASE tools.

Demonstration of the teaching methodologies coherence with the curricular unit's objectives

In class we discuss the concepts, paradigms and basic techniques of information systems in order to provide students with a solid foundation that allows them to operate under the current systems.
It is intended that each concept, paradigm or technique presented/discussed in lectures is put into practice by resolution of Case Studies and a Project. The demonstrative method will allow the student to know how to use a CASE Tool. The classes take place in the context of collaborative work, where teamwork skills will be developed.
